- This exhibition was developed while I was occupying the position of summer curator of Inuit art at Carleton University Art Gallery. I would recommend applying for this annual position to any Carleton student interested in Inuit art. My studies are currently in the art history department, but I have dabbled in anthropology in the past. I am writing my thesis about the auction market for contemporary Inuit art, because this marketplace has been insufficiently examined by anthropologists and art historians. When I am not writing my thesis, I am working as a research assistant at Carleton University Art Gallery. I very much enjoyed creating this exhibition. Watching and reading about Isuma videos was a remarkable learning experience. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

ReplyDeleteSaw parts of the "Our Land" series. I really liked the plain film style, especially the emphasis on simple dialouge and imagry. While "slow" by todays mainstream film standards, it forces you to consider the quiet and solitude, and sheer effort of will that it takes to live in the north.
